From Beige to Bling!

I had to stop at Joann's for some fabric and what could I make. My chairs were looking faded and blah.
So here we are all blinged up , I even had enough paisley to recover a new cushion I just bought!!
What will I do next??

In just a short while

We will have been married for 31 years
I remember the day well... Why you say? Was it the dress, the flowers, the meal or the vows... NONE of the above

We were married on a Tues night as it was a scheduled day off for me.There was a light snow and the weather was mild hovering around 0.Everyone was almost accounted for but the groom, It was near 7 pm and the word MURDER came to mind.

Unknowingly Ben was scampering around and he was locked out of the church. Finally someone felt pitty on him and let him in, to his relief..............

Once the ceremony was over and the guests well on their way to the venu....
The bride and groom were no where in site. Hmm What people did not know is that the groom had so many pockets in his 3 piece suit he had no idea where he put the car keys. About 20 minutes later we were on our way in time to get a sampling of our wedding dinner...................

And so married life began and Poor Mr. Low has been suffering ever since. Sorry no returns on this wife!

Just needs buttons

Hot Wire Hubby

Several years ago hubby purchased a used drill set with an accompanying circular saw. It was a good name brand, sadly the battery was psst. I managed to line up at Home depot at 5 am on boxing day to purchase a new drill with battery the same price as the battery, EUREEKA

Now for those of us familiar with Mr Low there is nothing that can't be done. Today he spied a similar battery - right voltage and size but not the same casing and 1/2 the price.

He successfully tore apart the old spent battery and threw the batteries out and kept the outer casing. He then opened the new battery and pulled out the innards, re wired them into the right configuration and there we go ... another chargeable battery ........................

Best news no one was electocuted in this experiment

Well I was minding my own business when..................... I was chewing on some soft food and suddenly it felt like a rock in my mouth, hm can't be. Low and behold it was smooth, shinny and white. A crown and not the tarnished one on my head... I was able to call a local dentist who is going to attempt to glue on my crown. Ben had to visit him a few years ago and he was very nice, but he did not like the Canadian Socialist Medical care.I guess i will smile sweetly - minus one side crown and take it all in, I wonder with the election not being behind us by a few months he will still be hot to trott. Hopefully he will be gentle really gentle!

Here are some of the guidelines in creating the Modern quilt:

Use asymmetry in quilt design
Rely less on repetition and on the interaction of quilt block motifs

Make primarily functional rather than decorative quilts
Contain reinterpreted traditional blocks-
Embrace simplicity and minimalism-
Often use gray and white as neutrals
Reflect an increased use of solid fabrics
Focus on finishing quilts on home sewing machines
Contain bold colors, on trend color combinations and graphic prints
Are inspired by modern art and architecture-
Incorporate increased use of negative space-
Frequently use improvisational piecing-
Utilize alternative block structures or lack of visible block structure

Looks closely can you pick out the different elements I used to make the qulit
PS for those of you who are not quite sure Sussie Sunshine and her friend are blowing bubbles. I think I need more but maybe tomorrow......................

Front of Challenge quilt

The Florida Modern Quilt Challenge .
I was given some fabric and had to use it to complete the Modern quilt challenge
I had to pick a traditional block and tweek it , lots of negative space ( light background) linear lines and
abstract form. I think I nailed it...

Sure way to piss off the neighbors

So here we are in a country not our own. It is Xmas time and the joyous cards are flowing. Now you have to realize we are in a section of Florida that is not that giving to foreigners, Mexican or otherwise.

If ever there was a confrontation I certainly would not be found to be anywhere near the trouble. But today I found a way. Innocently I opened my box of Xmas cards with the ENGLISH labeling on the box. Well the cards are cute with poinsettas and garlands. The text is scrolling and colorful.. but there is something awry. AHHA it hits me they are in French, now normally they are not a problem but in this collection of neighbors probably not appreciated, as it should be.

If one has their specs on they will soon see that there is an English translation on the back. Ben is in fits of laughter and wondering just who I am going to give them too. I am certainly going to hand them out they are too pretty to not do that. I will do it with a straight face as if I really meant to send them a card scripted in a language that they don't comprehend.

Lets' sit back and see what happens, then when they ask I will tell them that I am putting them to the test and if they didn't look on the back for the translation I will keep them in suspence.................... Only me in Florida could pull this off...................

And if you find me in your neighborhood tomorrow please give me a ride home........

OOPSEY

I have been known to dye my hair, it turned snow white at 40

I have not died it since the May wedding so....I remembered thinking I hit the jackpot at Biglots last year- boxes of hair dye $4 instead of $9and I left a considerable number here.

SO tonight was the night........except.................I forgot to tell hubby

Halfway through the 10 minute wait I decided to inform him he was soon to be in company of a " hot blonde"

I entered the room, hair lathered in colors of browns and blondes and hoping no green as the dye had been in the trailer all summer. My hair is gooped up in two clumps resembling devil horns- as only I can do because of my short hair. Wrapped in my robe I stated . |DADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA the devil made me do it!! I should warn you that I am dying my hair and should this turn out green I will don your hat and you will be at Walgreens looking for black hair dye. If it falls out better start checking the online wig sales for long blonde wigs, you know the kind with the long locks curled and overstates, like Dolly Parton!

Obviously I was having a good time with my performance and hubby , smiled and rolled his eyes- yep he said life is never a dull moment with me around. As I decided I better skiddaddle into the shower to rinse my locks hubby warned me the water pressure was down, as our filter was a little old. I was thankfull I got rinsed off fine and did not have to streak down the lane to the public showers! What a site that would be.....................

One more security blanket

Everyone needs a snuggly blankey

I looked at the cable pattern and thought I would rewrite it, why do I do this!!
I though I wanted a combination between a waffle weave and a cable and here it is.. The afghan is about 6' in length so at least one should have warm feet. I probably have 30 hours of work into it, I went through a dry spell literally when I ran out of yarn............ Then once I got the second skein on I went. My new problem>>> you got it left overs, maybe I will knitt socks to go with it!

It's a hard job but someone has to do it!

Remember the days before refrigerators that auto defrosted?
The RV fridge doesn't have that little component so instead it is me.
Once the freezer is scraped I then boil up two pots of water. With fridge and freezer empty the boiling pots go into their key spots, the doors are shut and yes the power is turned off. Twenty minutes later I open up everything and there we are clean as a whistle. I dump the water in the collector tray below the elements in the fridge and we are set to reload!!!!

Hmm wonder where the ice cream is??

sliding into first base........

Wrong sport!!

I was golfing when all of a sudden between greens I took a misstep.
I put out my hands as if to stop the fall, then thinking that was an invitation for a broken arm I quickly pulled my arms to my chest. At least my boobs would be protected. HAHA SO don't I slide on my shoulder roll around in the dirt and spring up.Hoping no one would see me literally bite the dust!! I was safe, not a soul around. I was so close to the baseball diamond I could always say I was practicing for a home run and did not quite have that " slide into base" perfected

I dusted my self off, looked for evidence of red ants on my pants- boy those little Bugg**s sure bite. And continued I have taken the wipe out on hole 3 thank goodness as I was half hidden by folliage.....

My last early am shopping

These are pics of the traffic as I headed home from my Friday USA thanksgiving purchases and then as I laid out my bounty. Wonder what I will make next?

WELL the adjective of the day is HOT GREEN PEPPER. WHOE BABY................ Now for those of you who have quit laughing. Please send recipes for my peppers. To those of you who feel sorry for me and my blistering lips- send remedies..........

I Survived

Black Friday!!

I was up at the crack of dawn and out the door by 5:15 am. On my to Home depot with a list. The doors opened at 5 am and I was sure I would be overrun by shoppers. As I entered the store the meet and greet team met with with candy canes, an offer of donuts and coffee and a map of where each item was. I was not able to locate one item and the Home Depot Assistant, walked me by the hand right to the item. Oh how I love self serve checkout as I skimmed past it and onto my next sale of the day

joann's fabrics was now open with a line up outside of about 20 ladies at 6 am. The ladies were well behaved as we careened through the line up of fabric. My thought was to buy full bolts of material rather than fight for the cutting table, I was out the door in a mere 20 minutes

Upon returning home at 7 am. I found hubby with coupons that he had clipped. We went to the store in search of his sale items also with a coupon. WE ended up with his new shoes, all Xmas gifts and a new credit card which saved me another 20% off. Needless to say it was a great day!

I guess I will be curbed from shopping for at least a few days!

For the Love of Qulting

http:www.centralfloridamqg.blogspot.com
/

I joined a Modern Quilting guild some 20 minutes away For those of you who don't have any knowledge of this type of guild I have enclosed the webpage. Just to be on a roll, I have joined the challenge.I have to construct a quilt on the guidelines of "Modern Quilting" with a newage fabric, then blog about it and finish it. Once finished and blogged I get to keep it fabric and all for my participation. Now what should I do???I will receive the fabric in December so I have loads of time to think and research

Only problem is it is hard to teach this old dog new tricks.HAHA

Gardener Jane

Wonder how long until Ihave fresh veggies, the green pepper is really busting out and the tomatoes are multipling now if only they would rippen and let me gobble them before the rabbit gets to them!

Recycle or BUST

I had a purse that was well loved, I purchased a few pieces of upholstery sample swatches, recycled the handles and inner zippers and added pockets on the side now I have a oh so roomy purse! Grand total $6

Just one more

I had a number of triangles left from other quilting projects, low and behold I had enough to make a double sized quilt top but I really needed a queen sized quilt. With 4 extra yards of fabric-- a lot of gold and swirly fabric that I got for 50% off I finished the quilt.

So wouldn't you know I have a few scraps - I think I will cut and strip them to make the bias tape trim, oh and lets all hope I have no left overs!!

One little pepper

Here I am praying over my new pepper plant in 2 days it has growing larger. I am now trying to protect it from that hungry little rabbit, lets see how I do..

Am I addicted?

I have been here since Oct 17th and very soon after I arrived I managed to make my way to my favorite fabric shop. It is coming onto week 3 and I haven't quite bought out the store but I have managed to make 2 full quilt tops and onto #3. Then I hope to have a little rest from sewing and perhaps pick up a knitting project........................

Sad demise but possible revival of

Scooter #2

Ben was doing his annual check up on scooter #2,our one and only survivor
In the midst of priss up we went for a walk and when back we noticed that the scooter had a mind of it's own. The scooter was elevated on a block with the back wheel revving wildly. Unknowingly it was on a race against time, once caught not only did we realize it was like the energized bunny refusing to heel, it had worn a hole in our rv carpet(don't worry I ordered another one last year- stored safely away). Upon further inspection the control was available for $7 on ebay, a price we were not sad to see. As we have no idea if the motor is the next to go, we decided to splurge and now wait for the necessary part to be retrofitted. I may be on the road once again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

We went grocery shopping

And Ben's sweet tooth got the better of him, He bought Rees' chocolate.
Now it is 85 degrees and we have a black car. This grocery store was our first stop and the chocolates he hid from his wife but not the sun, several had to be devoured immediately the rest made it to the fridge

Whew is it hot!

I have to resort to AC and sewing to amuse me imagine that!
I am making quilt top #2 with three colors, yellow, gold/yellow and sage green
I need to go back to the fabric shop to pick up some border fabric. I am sure hubby thinks " it is is a ploy just to go and spend more time imaging what I will make next! This is a sample of the block that I am making it is 4 X 5"
5 minute block it is easy only one seam- the problem? I have 240 to piece together once I get the border fabric, I should have done each segment larger, but I am up for punishment

Ten minute block

This is actually a queen sized quilt made from the 10 minute block so easy
Top finished in about 5 hours

What next?

By Thursday the RV was washed inside and out and the garden clipped and prissed
Ben has had to rewire the fridge as it gave up the ghost! Then the park's electricity was not grounded so we got lots of shocks. It took us a day to prove to them we had trouble and then finally came down, Ben made them take the box apart and yes we were not grounded. Of course they tried to tell him we were crazy and that they had no problem with the power. While here I got a big shock so they finally believed me!I had unplugged the RV while washing the outside with a metal extension pole, metal ladder on a metal rv. Good news I had runners one. Well Dear Hubby plugged in the rig to show the men the problem. I think I flew a few feet, definitely got some new curls..We are all set now. Power Problem fixed.

Well so we thought, moving on the washing machine would not spin and there I was with the tub full of water, Ben wrung it out and I went up to the laundry center. In the meantime the washer was pulled apart, a safety switch in the top that control the spinner so that when you open the top of the washer went kerplunk, we are now back in action

Did I mention the car that would turn on but not move forward or backward, got that sorted out too. Not sure what is going to go on the fritz next

I went to Joanns and got some fabric I have to make several quilts and thought I would start off with the 10 minute block depicted on you tube. I had the whole top cut. and the blocks all done in the afternoon after a few hours. It won't take me much more than an hour to strip and border that top. It is sure spiffy and soon I will post it on my blog.

The park is just starting to fill in , it is 98 and humid so the ac is greatly appreciated and we are soo glad it works! I have to get on track with my walking and exercise but it has been so hot we are staying quiet. We had a great trip, little construction, new pavement on the roads , and little traffic, The hotels we selected were from the saver books and we had nice places and great breakfasts.Plus wifi so we can keep in contact with everyone.

Hoping to start my golfing next week but I will have to do it at the crack of dawn if it stays hot!We are very comfy and pretty settled, we are used to our routine so takes us not too long to get organized Just like home.

SO let's see what trouble I can get into tomorrow

For those of you who are curious

There are many free bloggers to choose from, one being wordpress and another blogger.com. Both are equally easy to use and can be updated in minutes. Here is a quick tip.

To use blogger get yourself a gmail/goggle email address and they plug away.First you will want to look at the templates and find something that you will like. Then you are on your way, first though there are some things that I would check on.

1) Settings - do you want to have your own domain if so you can pay for a name that is unique to you and very inexpenive, if not you can choose a name and see if blogger already has your desire in use.. Next you want to set any privacy settings, do you want your blog open to the world? These are two things that you will want to do as you set up your account.

2) Blogging is much like writing a letter, from the post you can enter text, pictures and links. You can also preview and save your post until you are ready to publish it.

3) Once you start you will see how easy it is to use and how addictive it is. I got bored with the templates (backgrounds) and changed them easily. After using the blogger templates and organizing myself I decided to venture away and the background you see today is from PYZAM . Pyzam has a number of templates that are specific to blogger and easy to install..

Go ahead give it a try, it is free, there is lot of help info and it is a great way to journal your adventures.

Greenery everywhere

I can't believe that my flowers and planting are all intact after the hot summer
The Mini put and pool are empty. Time to run and get my gear to enjoy the quiet time. The plants will have to wait for the big trim day.......... When it is much much cooler!! 98 here the past few days but cooling off to 84 today

The Low's have landed

Here we are after two nights on the road, first in Harrisburg, PA and then in Manning, SC. The interstates 81/95 all seemed to be freshly painted and the driving was great, only a few minor stops as trafffic bottled necked. Construction in a few places which seemed to be more trucks blocking a lane rather than ACTUALLY WORKING!~

We arrived at the RV on Wed after lunch and cleaned it thoroughly inside, now for the outside, UGH. There has been new electrical installed in some sites, including ours. Ben got a rude awakening as he discovered that he got a shock and none of the wiring is grounded. YIKES> The electrical contractor is to come today!

Monday 15 October 2012

This is such a pretty place

Located just south of the NY/PA border it must be the windiest place on earth!  This is one of many rest , stops on our way south, that is still opened.  Surrounded by rolling hills and trees that have turned various  hurse of red, yellow and orange - but not for long those leaves are falling especially with the strong winds. Only another 3 hours and we will be in our nights lodgings in Harrisburg, PA.
