Lacing up!

Well today I thought I would play around with making some lace, I want to be able to add some lace trim to collars and all sorts of embellishments. SO here is a little sample of the little sampling I am doing!

Bejewelled

My FIbre guild learned to make nicely knitted beaded necklaces, but I was not certian that I would wear one. SO I made it half the length and then hand tied it onto a hair comb. Each bead is knitted to the one before using fine cording or in this cae I had loads of crochet cotton. NO this creation is not for me as you know my hair is too short.
Hoping that the daughter likes it!

Earthquake hits Jane and Ben!!

http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100623/earthquake-canada-100623/20100623/?hub=TorontoNewHome

Yep we are fine, good news I washed the house, steam cleaned the carpets and then get the lawn half mowed, the earthquake hits and guess what. Coughs up all this dust. At first I think that a truck hit the house, Ben looks and it does it again- no truck but the whole house shakes. The pictures and bookcases shutter and the floor sways back and forth. Once the earth stops the house is still swaying, but everything is intact. Rats no new house no insurance claim just a lot of tales to tell. The earthquake registered 5.5 here at home! WE are just north west of Ottawa on the fault line. It has been twenty years I am sure since the last one!

Serandipity down the Ottawa

After a morning of running I thought this is the day of the voyage.
I sprung out of the house, tip toed through clams and weeds to the awaiting boat,
Bucket, sponge and towel in hand. Scrubby dub dub. with in minutes the boat was glistening. Off to get the skipper and keys. We traversed several sandbars reaching deep open water and twirling currents we were off. We motored down the Ottawa River heading west almost as far as we could go until we came short of the dam. The water is low this year, the current still strong.. Not a boat on the water but us. We passed the haunted house, known for the ill fated families that have live there in years gone past, for the past 20 years there has been no record of ill repute. We slowed to admire the little island Mohr Island in the middle of the river it is this location that Samuel Champlain lost his sexton.

Visit the site to see the description of the part of the river we were on
http://sailquest.com/ottawa/v-mohr.html

We watched the diesel ferry as it took a boat load of cars from Ontario to Quebec passing it like strangers in the night. We observed new homes, fresh landscape and the familiarity of old steadfasts as historical monuments to us at least!! All in all it was a relaxing afternoon and a great way to see the river landscape without water skiers, seado's, or alien forces to contend with. The best part about it - I got to play skipper the whole way without supervision. Ben was too busy enjoying the view!

You know you are adopted when........

Now if you are going to have one child you hope for bright beautiful and successful. But there are times when you wish you had inherited your child's looks. Look closely very closely do you see blue eyes, curly hair, freckles, .. Nope. Brown eyes, black hair, some scattered freckles -- looks just like dad. Thank goodness she has the mother's brains!!

The pics below

Are a project that I have been working on, I think that there are 18 hours of hard labor, HAHA
I bought the fabric in the states did up the whole top and then realized I did not have enough for borders. I did not know what pattern I would be using I just hauled fabric around and bought what I liked. Then I had to buy the borders at home. About 2 X the cost, that will teach me not to have a pattern! I was not planning to make a large quilt but look what happened! Now I have left overs a bad situation to be in. Oh well I am sure there will be a call for them! I thought I would do this up for a wedding gift for one of Jenn's friends, I guess I just assume everyone has at least a queen sized bed as that seems to be naturally what size the quilt comes out in !!

Now for the backing, I am not sure if I will quilt a batting and backing together or make this into a duvet cover or just put a back on it and it can then be a plain old bedspread, too many decisions!!

What do you think?

All bedded up

What the heck is she up to now??

You ask??

WEll............... as you already read I striped the carpet from the front enclosure
Then I found the carpet that was meant for the boat- but we changed our minds
SO we have marine carpet in our front lobey!! After it was down I thought that the threshold looked awful with chips of different color of paint, I had carpeted it too but it was not the right color so off it came. YUCK!!
I went into the garage and looked for tremclad we have have an assortment, BUT i forgot i mixed some up last year to do the garage door. SO I did find some white and some dreied out black. I took the skin off the black, threw it into the white, whisked and out came great!! The threshold is grey , all one color without any speckles of past paint jobs. It really needs to be replaced it is aluminum but I can't find the right size so paint it is!!

Now my latest problem------------ I wanted to go boating but i can't shut the door until the threshld dries so that will have to be another day while I have my open door policy at the moment!!

The water is very low this year and we usually have this much beach in late July. My neighbor combed the beach with his hand make harrow. Our boat is out way out, the water is very shallow and there are a number of sandbars. This is my front yard- well maybe my hubbys thinks it is our back yard. Some old dogs you can never trick !!

What is old is new again

I stripped the carpet from the front enclosure and put it on the boat rails. The carpet that was originally on the wood skids was all rotted only with 100 nails to show for it and a bit of fuzz. THis carpet might not last long but that is ok it is in place!

Daughters other half

Have to be careful I don't say the Daughter's better half. Kev received his Doctorate in Chemistry. He has decided not to put Dr. K but K. PHD after his surname. We don't have to quite salute him but we do recognize his accomplishments, it has been a long journey and Kevin is almost out in the working world. He is completing his year of Post Doctorate - then the real work hits and hopefully the real world salary>

Congrats to all!

THere is a first for everything!

Here I go - a crochet hook, book for dummies and assorted yarn.
Some little person will get a little treat.
I only learned to do the ripple stitch and never adventured into the world of crochet.
The past few days I whipped this up in the shell stitch.
Who would have known that I could read the pattern and produce something without a load of mistakes??

I"m alive and with a toothie smile

Yep one more cavity in and out and one very frozen face. But....... did that stop me from eating? Nope--- thank goodness for soft foods that I have made previously and zapped warm. It is rather funny how frozen my face is from jaw to eye, that freezing really worked!! Good thing no one sucker punched me!

PIck PIck drill drill

Nope not drilling for gold today.

It is the perfect day to go to the dentist, it is raining dull and dreary and promises to be all day.. The dentist is waiting my teeth are sparkling. Old age fillings are required to have an update, funny how they are the first to go. Some people think falsies refer to boobs and eyelashes, some of us have neither but our pearly whites are supported by mercury and porecelin. All that money and who wants to look in another's mouth!! Except the dentist that sees $ signs and sedation to put those cranks out of their misery.
