Crabapple tree

Unfortunately I never get to reap the little apples on this tree, the birds and chipmonks seem to clean it up very well, So far the trees are doing very well, the added flood water provided a ton of moisture and therefore they are not wilting anytime soon, Hope I can keep up the foliage in this great condition

MacIntosh

Last week my tree was full of blossoms this week they are starting to waiver and hopefully soon be full of apple budelts. MacIntosh. granny smith and golden delicious. Hope they survive the deer. I have tended to them fertilized and sprayed so here is hoping for a bumper crop

Do it yourself panotgraphs

I was given a load of acetates and copied a design I made up I managed to draw a design with a bowl then photocopy it onto the acetates. I will then place the acetate onto the mirrored area under my quilting frame carriage. I can not only see what I am tracing with my quilting laser but I can also see the stitching on the back side of the quilt

Just my luck!

My day started with my tension being perfected and passing the test.
The Quilt top was loaded and household chores were done, As I passed the room the quilt called and against my better judgement I entered knowing full well that the I had promised myself a day off. Oh just a couple of rows, PLEASE.........

I carefully marked the panto with registration marks on my quilt to align it to perfection. The Bailey purred as I whipped through the pattern , 3/4 of the way through the quilt I thought I would leave some for tomorrow, OH no why put it off when I could do it today

THEN IT HAPPENED!!!

You know what say about threes?
1)The panto shifted
2) The laser started blinking and distorted then died
3) The plastic foot that was securely mounted on the appropriate spot split at the screw

YEP I will return to that quilt ANOTHER DAY~
Welcome to Jane's world!

The Tuity Fruits Quilt

Thanks to the West Carleton Fibre guild.. They are keeping me in fabric so that I can make a multitude of quilts for charity, one would almost think the old fellar paid them to keep me quiet and out of his hair.

The quilt blocks are 7 1/2" square with thrip strips and turned alternate ways, It looks likd of mumble jumble here but it is quite attrictive with it's bright colors and black border

There is a reason why

People live in Condo's....

When it comes to yardwork the thought is ugh. First you are lucky if you can pull start the 100 pound lawn mower, noisey and stinky it makes it's cut along the path that hopefully you have chosen. With bare ankles exposed Mosquitoes find their daily meal, pushing with one hand and swatting with another it becomes a sport just short of being listed in the summer olympics. TO dress for the occassion, next time you dawn your knee high rubber boots, mosquito net hat, long sleeves and BUG REPELLENT - a fume like no other expensive perfume. Still the pesky critters find you !!

Now the process has begun and you soon find that the bag at the end of the lawnmower is spitting green stuff at you. You stop dead in your tracks, reach for a 40 gallon drum and unhook the collecton bag from the mower, pouring your overflow of goods into the recycle pail,of course it is too small but you have these big rubber boots on and you jam your bounty with those boots only to be repaid by a host of once again famished bugs that were hiding in those blades of grass. It doesn't matter you have long sleeves on they have huge teeth that penetrate the material.

And so the process starts and stop YOU are now hot and sweaty as you look towards your neighbors and think OH YEAH THEY HAVE A GREAT IDEA!!

Need I say more??? Condo it is in my next life............

One is never enough.....

I started with some donated fabric, lots actually and I stacked it into what I thought might work

Then it happened my $25 machine that I bought on ebay a few years ago died. It was an estate sale and new but through my abuse has bit the dust and not worth fixing..but............... My sturdy old Kenmore that I got almost 20 years ago as a gift is still ticking. SO I hauled it onto the cutting table and away I went ........

Soon I will finish this flannel and it is quite bright as you can see, one more afternoon should do it. It will be for a twinn bed.

You won't want to hire me to paint for you - some did make it on the walls and some I am wearing too. The room was revamped with new lights, mirror ( recently) wall paint, moldings and some hardware. Thank goodenss I did not have to stop and tear out my ceramic tiling, oh that is another story to tell....................

Almost everything is out of the bathroom

Everything is pulled around and the bathroom is finally bare, 2 coats of paint and ceiling done. Hopefully tomorrow we can then start putting stuff all back togather! I will be glad to get everything back in order, it has been long enough!

A happy wife is

One that has a new washer dryer that last ones were purchased in 1994. Horray no more oil on my clothes, no agitator to eat the laundry and now I am listening to the wish wash of the washer!! Must be my lucky day!

Stippled out

I finally finished this quilt top but I need to add binding. It is not going to happen till after the bathroom renovation, I can't move in my sewing room for all the junk from all the bathroom stuff!

It was a good idea at the time

Boy do I have a deal for you !!!

I purchased two rolls of quilt batting 50 Yds. each and it was a steal until.........
Here I am with my long arm and the fluff from the batting is all over the place in every crevice of the machine and the needle plate. I change my bobbin frequently to refill and take a swipe.Large fluffy stuff comes out of the machine, I guess I could trap it as it blows down the hall and capture and spin it. Well there is good and bad news. I got a deal and I am using every scrap, I could only fit one bolt into the little car and so I only have 50 instead of 100 yards to use- this season! My machine is whistle clean from all the added attention. My floors are also clean from the constant sweeping and vacuuming. Oh when will it end, Well I have 3 more quilt tops so it will be awhile.

If you drop by

Bring a paid of safety glasses, plaster, spatula, tape and paint and brush.
I just stripped the wallpaper off the bathroom walls and ceiling, What a mess but it will be short lived I am hoping. I have the walls to wash down and hopefully after lunch I will have a game plan about the plastering.Never a dull moment in the world of Jane

Long arm revision

Ben has been busy today. My longarm quilting machine has a foot pedal that I am not using - I use the hand control - a push button control. There was a problem where to put the foot pedal so I managed to smile sweetly , and ask for help. The pedal rode piggyback on the machine and was always getting in the way. This is the perfect solution and I can pack it away in case I ever need it.. But for the meantime it is one less problem off my list

Just wait to see what I do tomorrow

Grumpy?? ME??

Here I am looking in the mirror and seeing my former self who has gently aged-

Hair turning white when I hit 40- solution Hair Dye.
Crows feet and wrinkles- no problem mostly covered by freckles.
Teeth are not so pearly but they are vintage, all mine and clean. Vintage color I would say slightly yellow from age- that is ok I could never stand the glare of pearly whites anyway
Weight? Hmm a lady never tells but the weigh scale reminds me- it is out in the garage now!- IT LIED
Knocked Knees- That is a real problem I want to run, just to keep up with my chores and my knees say no- one needs a meniscus repair the other is arthritic- one is in sympathy with the other. I sure wish they would quit talking! It is slowing me down
My mind- so far I have not lost it but I have misplaced it a couple of times today!!
Eyesight is diminished and glasses really help you know those $1 magnifiers- but I keep misplacing the darn things- Hubby says it is an age thing, He must know he is the expert- 14 years my senior

SO it seems the only thing I have going for me is my quilting and sewing- so far so good and no remakes!

I was finishing this off yesterday

I made the quilt top from triangle scraps last fall, then I stripped the borders and have a queen sized quilt. All I need is pillow shams. I embroidered the laundry label and the quilt label. This is my first quilt on the longarm that is done with a pantograph , and the third quilt but first full sized one on my new Quilting Machine.

The laundry label says " wash me gently, hang me to dry". Hope they get the point don't wreck it the first wash!

Saturday 4 May 2013

I am getting there

I have my label created and basted onto my quilt, boy am I going to be glad this one is done.

It was only a challenge because some stubborn person ( guess who?) decided to put the large quilt on the frame and test out her new longarm. Wouldn't want to waste time or thread would we! Ok so the quilt turned out very well, there is some off stitching a place or two when I was starting on the machine and the needle bar fell down! Then the tension needed a little more tweaking but who would be the wiser but me! My only regret?? Is that I could not pry all my batting I bought in FL into the sports car and of course now I have so many quilts I might be just that stubborn to leave the tops until I go back across the border for batting. On the other hand I just may be able to squeek enough through to get myself through them all, Time will tell!!

This is what we found when we got home

ACTUALLLY it was worse!
I managed to rake the yard, well the part that was not flooded! If you look hard in the last picture you can see the Mallard that decided to make my yard his personal swimming pool. There were a mommy and a daddy but the Mrs has a day off as she flew the coup a little earlier, poor dad is left to relax on his own

We found this Gem when we were out walking

Down the beaten path and we wondered who the original owners would have been?
There are several houses the same design on the street but this is the most glorious
Look at all those stairs to climb!!
