Just in case you missed me!!

www.holidaytravelresort.com

This is where I am , snug as a bug in a rug! I have been asked once again to create the park rag so that is what I am into - up to my ears in fact. I performed the task in the past and with the PERSONNEL responsible leaving that left the door open and the holler for " OH JANE!". SO here I be up the ying yang in emails , badly penned notes and scraps of paper with oh so important messages. Let us see if I can stay out of trouble, at least for the first issue

Segments

These are the two embroidery segments that I added into my quilt the daisy chain is what is separating the columns and the green swirls is what is between the blocks

Round two

Ben is hiding behind the quilt he is a good model. I don't think that I am going to embroider the outer borders. I am thinking I might frame the whole thing in white and then do some fancy quilting. That is for another day!

Guess what I did on my Birthday? Bet you can't
Well my littlest boyfriend messed his pants and he needs a sparyer pal. It is a shield so that his mom and dad don't get sprayed on when cleaning his diapers. SO I made him a homemade Sprayer Pal- Maybe should calls it Nannie's pal. yes they make then for $29.99 but mine is about $3. One plastic cutting board that is rigid and about 8" X 11", some velcro, a flexible cutting board and a bag clip to hold the diaper in place, No metal parts to rust!!! There you go Master Theodore

Thinking, planning always thinking

You wonder why I have been quiet for awhile? I made 9 huge log cabin segments, All appliqued and stitched down, Now I have to figure out how I will assemble them the white background one will be the center of the display . I am thinking I might embroider borders. Have to check through my stash of embroidery designs. Might keep me busy for a little while

To be named or not to be named that is the ?

One more prototype. Depends if it is a pass. I created a file , stitched out on my embroidery machine, If it is a pass I would then iron on the double sided fusible interfacing so that they can be ironed on and not sewn on, Easy Peasy, Hmm maybe tomorrow I will have another set..

Dear Nannie

I can't have new flannel bed sheets without a matching washcloth and bath hat.. a Baby needs to be coordinated to look stylish to his little friends.

SO Nannie had some left over fabric and some dimensions and here we go,, lets see if the hat still fits when Little Ted comes to visit, if not I will use this as a pattern and carry on. No one would want to see my bored or at least that is the impression I am beginning to get. I mess up the joint with threads and clippings, then pack it all up, sweep ad dust. If it was not for my craft I would not have as clean a house, then again maybe I wouldn't mess it up!

Here we go again

As you can imagine I am loaded with fabric over the past several days
I have managed to purchase bolts of flannel and lots of quilting cotton, I am hoping to sew a lot of the stuff up and give away at Xmas that way I don't have to worry about storing fabric.
This lot are fitted crib sheets

Rain rain go away

Disaster averted. It is torrential rain, with smattering of thunder . As I look out my window I see lots of moisture pouring out spouts, down the street runs a river. Then I look uo. Hmm the awning looks a little " bulbous" Ben increases the slope for pour off narrowly missing teh 10 gallons that was being held in the " Low's Resevoir" known as our RV awning

JUST A SMIDGE OF FABRIC

Ben thought we needed arm covers on our recliners, I am not great at upholstery but had found a quilted scrap, I shaped it onto the arm and hand stitched the fitting, Then I finished the edges so that they would not fray and tacked them in place. Works in a pinch and color coordinated with my chairs,

I then asked |Ben if it he thought it was quiet. I have finished for the day, I am not running the sewing machine. I am on strike at least until tomorrow

I doubled up the wall hanging that I was working on and came up with an extra wide queen sized quilt top, Now I wonder if I will have to increase the size of my frame!

I opened my door

Here is what greeted me, apparently a garter snake. It was lazing around on my rug and then made off for my garden, no hissing no venom How unexciting!

Fancy Pants

prototype is done, no kiddie to try it on yet!

SO I made the pants a little wider than an normal pair about an inch on each side, then in the back I cut a V out from the crotch and added a panel about 1.5X the piece that I took out, I put in elastic and left a little opening to get to it at the front, this way we can loosen/ tighten once i get my hands on the little boy,

There is a wide leg with a cuff that is rolled, that leaves the height option wide open..

Modern Quilt Pattern

This is called Movement in Squares it was easy to assemble, I like it so much I think I will make more segments so that I can make it full sized

I am trapped

Thunder, heavy rains and winds. Off in the distance apparently there is a warning watch for Tornados. It is not on top of us lucky for me---- Yet

While some this side of the border

Think it is time for Thanksgiving I am preparing for Xmas.I love to recycle as you know and here it is so far I have my reindeer, some greenery, bobbles and bows. I even hot glued a red bulb on his snoot.
Unfortunately I have yet to find some sort of bridle for him, I might have to sit on it for a few days until " it comes" to me!

Grand Finally

Just imagine a good press, a windless day to take pictures, but you get the idea.
I am confined to a 3 X 3 area to sew in my RV.. I basically take over the corner of the living space and sew on the dining table, I have a little 2' portable ironing board. I can get a way with a lot of mischief. I could sew outside but the problem is that I often sew on white fabric and it would be dirty by the time I am done, SO I am quiet in mischief in my corner. When my sewing machine is not up then my then my embroidery machine is on the go, Oh it is entertainig.

For real excitement I tried baking yesterday in the propane oven Forgetting how hot it gets over the pilot light. My muffins were a little burnt on the bottom, just barely, NOTE to self use the rack above the pilot lot and not the metal shelf. Oh well they are edible and now I am in tune for the next time

Been hexed!

I had in an early post showed how I was attempting the 1/2 hexies and assembly. Well here is the quilt. Now I am trying NOT to go to the store to purchase any fabric so I hauled out my strips and I will start building borders tomorrow. I am unsure of how many I can use so I will just build one border at a time Oh it is going to be colorful . By the time I am finished I will have a lot of quilt that looks as if it has hungarian heritage as the borders are going to be colorful in rich tones, Then I will use the polybatting to quilt it up when I get home and I think it is crying for some heavy quilting we will see what I come up with!!

Someone once told me that scraps were delicious. I am using mine to try new techniques I have not done before

Monday 10 November 2014

Half Hexies be damned

I have about 500 and contemplated how to put them together, I have used one strip method where a triangle is added on the top right and bottom left of each hexie and they slide into a nice pattern< BUT I decided to try something different of course I hate the Y seams so here we go, Strips of a different sort. First I cut out the hexies. Then I cut them in half. Hundreds of segments later, I start to arrange them in some order sewing segments together horizontally and the vertically. As a result here we are I have so many more, this is going to take all week, Ben is hoping as it keeps me out of his hair

See what I mean there is a long way to go!!!

Saturday 8 November 2014

This is the last of them

I have so many ideas but I thought I would take a break and now work on one project for ME and then back to creating for Baby Ted! While playing around with my creativity not all is lost. These snazzy legs cost me $4.39 for 4 pairs of new socks, If I was home I probably could have looked for well worn T shirts of a cotton knit to play with but these patterns were most fun and pretty easy.

My new sewing machine has arrived and it has allowed me to play with all sorts of stitches to make sure that I know what I am doing and I am not running over my fingers

Baby legwarmer tutorial

Those cold little baby legs and those huge cloth diapers. How is one to keep those little kickers warm without pants to pull up and own over the fancy pants. B B Babylegwarmers

First you need a pair of knee high socks

As you can see I cut off the sock between the heel and toe. Then cut it in 3 equal pieces.
Discard the heel and the toe.

Keeping the center section of the foot, match it to the sock end and remove about 3/4 of an inch so it is smaller width way

Stitch the ribbing onto the sock

Well when in Florida........

How can one be here and not have a few fruit trees
We do have a wonderful and plentiful orange tree and decided after seeing some nice fresh bananas that we too needed a Banana Tree We looked for the best plant and found this little guy ( about 2 feet tall) actually he had a twin in the same pot so we are hoping in a year to get fruit. They require full sun, loads of water and no frost, lets see if I can protect the little guy this winter. Two for the price of one surely one will live!! Stay tuned

Out for a walk with the old fellow

We were on a walk through our park and at the Marina area I spied with my little eye....
These enormous tress, the trunk on was would take three of me with arms extended to meet myself! The root system is interesting, at times it can be very dry and my summation is that the lack of water has attracted the roots to grow above the surface and then as time whittles on they become almost statuesque in nature.

Near the end of the Marina sits a lonely crane, I tried to get him to smile but no luck.
The marina feeds into Lake Harris through a narrow channel that dips under an overpass on the highway. The Lake itself is very large

Just in case you might want to study Lake Harris and it's tributaries- check out the link above

LIL's Ted bed

I picked up a play and go, by Graco, It is a used one that was in a neighbors garage and collecting dust, I managed to scrub it clean. The bottom mattress is a padded cardboard . I made a reversible cover for it from 1 yard of each fabric, It fits like a glove, I left it open at one end and it will tuck in very well. The reason I choose to leave it open is for quick on /off scenario. As the whole set up is plastic if one side of the fabric gets wet it can be flipped to the dryer side and attended to in the am
