My first try

As you know I bought a quilting frame that allowed me to mount a quilt on it and then use my own machine to quilt.
It is a lot of free motion squiggles where you have to find the right speedand the right movement to create even stitches. As you can imagnie there is a learning curve. This is the first masterpiece

It was a wild night!

Last night the skies blackened and the view became foggy, suddenly rain descended and the winds picked up. A boat or two were caught on the river, dipping up and down with the waves as they waited out the storm. After the initial hit there was a lull with clouds so those boaters could get off the water. High winds picked up and heavy rains. The famous bluesfest, in Ottawa, was halted as their stage collapsed in the attached video. Luckily just the landscape was rearranged but there were no incidence of loss of life

Heat wave!!

( Click on post title for video)

Here we are no rain in site and a four day stretch of nice warm weather and no rain. I was doing fine until I saw the news "Heat Wave". I doddled around the property prising and watering a container or two. I sat on my beloved cedar bench that the child bought for me a few years ago as a Mother's Day Gift!

I admired the job I did on cleansing the deck and reminded myself that there would have to be a round two soon, to bring that wood back to life. Amazing how much dirt comes off the trees and asphalt roof to dirty my nicely stained boards. Wandering towards the " wood pile" lean to also the area for collecting containers, relics and monumental finds I primp and weed out unused, unwanted treasures, piled high for the taking on garbage day. I will put my loot in a separate pile for those that might enjoy the new to them deals of a lifetime!

The wood pile has never looked so good, talk about diva remodels of the old relic pile! I topped up the gas tank on the mower and sorted through the various sizes of gas tanks, aligning them by size. Now that they are all empty I have an assortment and a big decision of which one I will fill. Of course it will be proportionate to my wallet size- whether it is the 2 gallon, 5 or 10 gallon sized tank. Oh the delmema's of a diva!

My plan may have backfired but............

I decided to let the garden do it's thing, and today was the day of weeding
Two 3" tall recycle bins full of plush green leaves from broadleaf, dandelion, clover and chickweed what a variety! I of course could probably made a salad from my crop but decided to donate the bounty to the city compost.! But wait I am not finished!! I have a small amount left to do and decided it may be best done when we are not in heat wave mode! My plan almost worked, the garden is pretty think with plants, the weeds were plentiful but easier to cultivate in one swoop. And my thought of zeroscaping may be coming to fruition!

SO once my tins are again empty I can fill one of them partially with my next crop of edible weeds!!

Look up way up!!

There it is a little streak! I have successfully painted my kitchen ceiling with 2 coats of paint a white satin- glossy as all heck. It must have been blinding because as I reached up to cut into the paint I tripped. Yes indeedy! With loaded paint in hand, a tray poised in the second I lost my balance. The good news is that I saved the paint BUT I managed to descend, and not gracefully, from the 2 step stool. I wrench me knee, sore but perfectly workable and then it happened. Rushing to clean up I kicked the couch. Ouzers! Add 2 broken purple toes to the list. BUT I did finish the ceiling and it looks great despite the fact it was painted by calamity Jane! Oh well now it is all done and I can ice and rest my foot, I hope it hurries up. I need to mow the lawn as soon as I can put a shoe on ... maybe tomorrow!!

I know you missed me but................

Free Clipart Images

First I had the on again off again contractor all week who came to plaster, tape and respray ceilings and mend crack in the walls over doorways. Yesterday was his last day of feathering the plaster.

This a.m. I got up at 5:30 waited to 6 am waited until the lite was appropriate and watch out! After a light sanding of dry plaster. I dipped and swooned, swooshed and splattered paint , most of it towards the walls.I found that drop sheets only collect puddle of paint for me to step in and then tromp through the house. So I laid plastic under the sheets, had what Ben calls me old granny dress on for the occasssion. Bright red and splattered with paint it covers me from head to toe, well almost those curls are not protected! I had a two step step stool(thanks kiddies) left behind from the daughter's move. Perched on it I can just reach the ceiling enough to dabble a little paint on the ceiling line between the wall and ceiling and yes I dabbled a bit of paint onto the stippled ceiling as well, just think of it as my piece signing! after about 4 hours I have successfully painted hallways, living area and front entrance. Priss and shine it looks devine! Painting back on the wall where they once hung, coverplates resting back on their correct placement. Ahh a job well done!

Stay tuned for day two. That is if I can move by then!! I have one more large project to do tomorrow, I have to paint my kitchen ceiling . It has a huge plastered area where the gyprock tape was replaced, retaped and replastered, It looks dry enough to sand and this evening hopefully I will have the energy to raise my arm over head to give it a royal swipe! Then once again at the crack of dawn I will arise to do my duty and hopefully be successful before DH gets out of bed!

Royal Fuss

Click on the post title to view the gossip!!
Will and Kate came calling and Canada put on a spread for them.

Full of pomp and ceremony the Royal Couple were received into the Canadian celebration of Canada's day. From honor guards, horse drawn carriage, to cultural events and ceremonies followed by a display of fire works.- Ottfawa showed it's guests a good time. As a rule Canada Day Ottawa has a show unlike no other to celebrate Canada's birthday each July 1. With country wide talent descending on center stage at Parliament Hill, fire works, and free cake- if you can fight the 200K plus crowd it is all your to take in.

Now the Royals have moved on from Ottawa to parts east of the Capital, we make way for another tradition , Bluesfest!!

Not to be outdone by the tail endings of jazzfest

OK so we had a break and now back to work!!

More boat duties- will this thing ever be done?
Ben rebuilt the helm, I covered it with vinyl and put one coat of stain and three of varnish on the steering wheel. The steering in place and now Ben will rewire some of the electronics on the control box while we have it apart. The ignition and kill. switches are now up to spec and working. Once the control box is rewired, we can make a top plate for them helm and attach it for easy access to the wiring if needed.

After the control box then the lighting and we must not forget the captains chair, then I can scrub the deck and prop her in the drink. While we are at it should we name the boat? How about Jane's Revenge? Hmm

Maybe we should make a competition " Name that boat!"
