Walked down the narrowest Alley in Canada. Barely room for one person must be. 30" wide.
We found a new Chinese Museum exhibit chalked full of history. I suspect it will only get better as more people donate artificacts. Interesting there was a dedication to the First Canadian Chinese Nurse educated in Victoria and her full uniform. We also saw documentation of the head tax paperwork. Very similar to what Ben's dad had to pay for the family.
The map of China below shows the location of Ben's home in China in the lower green area. The name of the town / area was much different than when he knew it. Withn the occupation of the communists the name had changed, as well as the dialect.
I was impressed with the dragon masks and their complexity not in the use of fabrics but the intricate framework. These masks now retired have their own place in history.
The museum seemed to have most of its displays concentrated on the earliest settlers who come to hunt for gold, setting up grocery stores, restaurants as well as being employed by those staking their claim for gold. At this point there is little mention of Asian farmers who were particularly settled from the Okanagon Valley to the extreme west coast. However I am sure with time, space and donation of historical facts the museum will only evolve.
